What motivates me to practice yoga?

Updated: Nov 20, 2020

As you might know - it is not easy to be always motivated to do yoga practice. We are all humans and have different moods and priorities every day. Sometimes it is easier to skip practice by thinking “I will do it tomorrow” when we are tired after a long working day or when we just want to relax on the weekend. But yoga, like all other practices that are beneficial to us (sleeping well, eating healthy, controlling our mind, etc.), require to put some effort at first and to be consistent.

We need to motivate ourselves to make the practice on a daily basis and then, once we get this habit, our body, mind, and soul would ask for this practice as it becomes crucial for us. We will not feel comfortable when we skip the practice anymore. This is the stage where we do not need motivation from the outside - we will have the motivation inside ourselves, our body will ask us to practice.

How to achieve this stage? I would recommend starting with a short practice and do it every day within a month. You can start with 10 minutes of practice a day.

This is my practice: every morning after waking up and having a glass of warm water with lemon, I do two cycles of sun salutations, then a controlled breathing exercise (inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4) for a few minutes, and then I sit still in meditation for a few minutes (focus on the sounds around me, scan the body, focus on my breathing, and then bring awareness back to my body). After that, I express gratitude and finish my practice. This practice takes no more than 10 minutes, but it brings a lot of benefits to me and will bring to you! To your body, mind, and spirit. It will be a great start to your day! Or if you practice it after work - it will be a wonderful tool to calm your mind before you go to bed.

Do this 10 minutes practice for a month and see how you feel, explore any changes that are happening in your body and mind, and share your experience here! If you have any questions - please reach out to me!

Do you have your own yoga practice that you are motivated to do every day? Please write about it here in the comments!

Namaste.
